When I received my invitation to the Peace Corps, I truly believed that the people whom I loved and cared about would still be there when I got back. Unfortunately, what I failed to realize is that life has its own plan and own schedule. For when my mother called the evening on February 28th, 2017, I knew that one of those people incredibly close to my heart was no longer with me. I knew that the person I was so excited about embracing was now gone. My grandmother.
For those of you planning on joining the Peace Corps, I stress the importance of mending ends, spending time with those you cherish, and overwhelming them with love. Losing a loved one is hard, especially overseas, so knowing you enjoyed the last moments together is important.
