On November 6th @ 4am, a group of us moved to what will be our site for our next two years of service. From Suva, we took a bus that rode onto a ferry, dropping us off on the island of Vanua Levu at the Nobuwalu wharf. While the thought of being dropped of at my site (Seaqaqa) by myself was terrifying, I found and adopted a small puppy, which I named Gentle Ham, to keep me company. We started dropping everyone off- Loni, Monti, and then me. By the time it was my turn, there were only four other volunteers still with me. I remember standing in my house as everyone started giving me words of encouragement and saying their goodbyes. I’m not going to lie- while this was exactly what I had been waiting for during the previous two months of training, THIS WAS TERRIFYING. And while I am currently making friends and integrating into my community, I stood on my porch and cried as the staff and other volunteers drove away.
I WILL POST PHOTOS OF MY SITE AS SOON AS I GET THE CHANCE.
